The Creation of Adam is my interpretation of the biblical Adam. For me, Adam is a picture of humanity and our the power to exercise choice.
The Torah says,
“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore, choose life, that you and your offspring may live.”
The power of our choices not only affect us in the physical reality, but also in the spiritual; our choices not only affect ourselves, but also those around us; they not only affect the here and now, but also the future. We have an incredible responsibility to ourselves, to society, and the world around us.
This sculpture is a reflection of the human capacity to do both wonderful and terrible things. For me, it is a reminder that our choices are not made in a vacuum, but rather, they have real and lasting consequences both to ourselves and those who come after us.
